Tips for Furniture Maintenance and Cleaning
Good furniture needs regular maintenance to keep beautiful and extend its service life. Different materials have different cleaning rules. Wrong cleaning methods will leave permanent scratches, stains or damage the surface coating.
Wood furniture should avoid water scrubbing directly. Use a soft slightly damp cloth to wipe dirt, then dry it right away. Strong detergent and alcohol are forbidden, because they will erode paint or wax layers. Prevent hot cups and sharp objects from touching the surface directly. Put coasters and placemats for protection.
Fabric furniture is easy to absorb dust and liquid spills. Vacuum it weekly with a soft brush head. When liquid spills, absorb it quickly with dry towel instead of rubbing hard. Use special fabric cleaner for stubborn stains. Do not soak the whole cover if it is not removable.
For leather furniture, wipe surface dust frequently. Use professional leather conditioner every few months to prevent cracking. Keep leather away from heating devices. Metal furniture is easy to clean. Remove fingerprints with mild cleaner and dry to avoid rust.
Do not place all furniture under air conditioners or heating vents. Constant temperature change speeds up aging. Simple and regular care can keep your furniture looking new for many years.
